Guest Room Organizing

by - July 31, 2017

“Mi casa es su casa” – Spanish for “my house is your house”. Very few things in life beat the feeling of feeling welcome and special in a friend’s house.

Today, I am going to share some ideas on what I have in my guest room to make my guests feel welcome. My guest room is quite small, but it has everything a guest would need. The guest room doesn’t have an en-suite bathroom; therefore I am keeping the toiletries in the top drawer of the bed pedestal. If you have an en-suite bathroom, then these items will go into the en-suite bathroom.
It doesn’t matter how big or small the guest room is, as long as it is clean, tidy and organized.

In my guest room I have a good quality double bed (base and mattress), 2 bed pedestals and 2 lamps. Buy bulbs/globes with a soft glow for the lamps, then it creates a relaxed ambience in the room and it is also soft on the eye when reading.

Mirrors are also a nice to have. I have a wall mirror, close to the electricity plug. There is also a mirror on the inside of the cupboard, to get a full view of your outfit.

Let’s talk bedding:
1.       Mattress protector
2.       Summer sheets
3.       Winter sheets
4.       Good quality pillows
5.       Electric blanket for winter
6.       Extra blanket for winter
7.       Duvet cover
8.       Duvet inner that can be used during the winter and summer months

The bed pedestals have 2 drawers each. In the top drawer, I keep the toiletries and in the bottom drawer, the towels. Swimming towels should also be available in summer if you have a swimming pool.

So what are the key toiletry items that I keep?
1.       Shampoo
2.       Shower gel
3.       Tissues
4.       Toothpaste
5.       Toothbrush
6.       Mouth wash
7.       Hand lotion

You can of course go wild here. Some suggestions would be a small hair dryer, lip-ice, feminine sanitary products, deodorant, body lotion, etc.

Buy good quality towels. 1 bath towel, 1 face towel and 1 face cloth per bed pedestal (per guest).
A multi-plug that provides for 2-prong and 3-prong plugs must be available for charging mobile phones or using laptops or hairdryers.  Write down the code/password of your Wi-Fi and put it on the bed pedestal or in the drawer.

I reserved a shelf in the bedroom cupboard, which can be used for unpacking clothes. There is also space available in the hanging side of the cupboard with additional coat hangers.
Over-the-door hooks are perfect for hanging up gowns and wet towels behind the door.
For that extra special touch, buy a favourite magazine, chocolate and snacks for your guests and leave it on the bed or the pedestal.

Enjoy the time with your guests, make awesome memories and let them leave with a feeling of your house really feels like my house.

Happy organizing.
